The JK Extreme mounting system bolts to the roll bar with middle and rear brackets. This unobtrusive, high performance, nearly indestructible mounting solution allows you to quickly remove the Freedom Panels and works with the hard top or with no roof at all. Hello, the front bracket that attaches to the windshield mount obviously touches the paint (with padding I assume). My question is about the rest of the bracket going vertically. Most frames like this come away from the paint at that point where as the front runner appears to be very close to the paint all the way up. It is touching all the way or can you get behind there when it's time to wash the vehicle? Thanks, Kevin
Question by kevin
The Pillar Bracket is actually floated by a coupe rubber spacers. Which prevents the paint from being damaged, and was engineered with this in mind. There is even enough space to run wire down behind for Light Bars or Spotlights. Debris getting caught behind it is rare, but running water between the gap should do the trick.
How do you mount the back of the rack on a hardtop
Question by David Murray
The rear potion of our rack does not actually mount to the hardtop. The rear mounting brackets mount to the roll cage in the rear and bolts through the hard top. Installing our rack system will require drilling into the hardtop of your vehicle.
Check out the installation instructions under the installation tab on our website for more information.
Can I get the cross-slats powder coated in white? my JKUR is white, but more importantly i'd like to reflect some of sun's heat off of the black roof. Can I buy extra slats to decrease the space between? Thank you.
Question by Rex
You can absolutely purchase additional slats to make the rack more solid. At this time we only offer our racks in black however. Thank you
All our rack systems come with wind deflectors to prevent wind noise. When adding a roof rack on any vehicle, some sort of wind noise will occur but with the wind deflector installed it is very minimal.
How much load can this rack support? I need to support roughly 600lbs of tent and people.
Question by tsanantonio
The Slimline II Tray itself is rated at 600 lbs (moving weight). Usually roof rack systems are limited by the strength of the roof or gutters they are mounted to. In the case of the Front Runner Jeep Extreme mounting system, the weight is carried by the roll cage of the jeep, which can support more weight than you should ever need. Will I be able to fix my rooftop tent on this roofrack. Where is the ideal position to fit this.
Question by Ben Heydenrych
You are able to fit a roof top tent to our rack yes. You did not mention the brand, so I am not sure of any specific mounting requirements. Typically people install with the tent towards the rear of the vehicle, but it is a personal preference. Thank you.
I see it says Works with hard top or without hard top. Does that mean it will not work with a soft top?
Question by Donny
Unfortunately the rack will not work with a soft top. The rack mounts straight to the roll bar and would require holes to be cut in the top. The brackets would most likely interfere with the soft top poles.
Is the roof rack modular as in would it be possible to cut the slats down, side rails etc and reassemble as to allow the fitment of this rack to other makes and models of 4x4? E.g. do the side rails etc bolt together?, Cheers James
Question by JAMES
We sell 55 different size roof racks - 5 widths and 11 different lengths, so there would be no need to cut down the components to fit other vehicles. Our racks fit all but the most extreme sized trucks and cars!
Want to mount my 50 inch KC hilites light bar underneath the rack in the front Will that be a possibility ? How much wind noise with just the rack itself ?
Question by Seth
The Slimline II rack is very easy to mount and adapt other accessories to. Fitting a light bar should not be an issue at all. The stock rack is very quiet on the JK, replacing the wind deflector with a light bar may produce more noise however.
How much space in inches is there between the bottom of the rack and the top of the wrangler hardtop. Mow much overall height does it add ?
Question by Dylan
The space between the roof and the rack is approximately 2 and 3/4 inches. The overall height added to the vehicle roof top with the rack kit installed is approximately 4 and 3/4 inches. Please note that these measurements may vary slightly at different parts of the roof.
How easy it is to remove the hard top once this rack is install? I see that it can work with and without the top, but I'm not clear on the effort to remove the top. For instance how does the front supports attach?
Question by SCEV
The rack will need to be unbolted from the mounting brackets, and then remove the hard top like normal. The front support bolts to the windshield hinges using the existing factory bolts. You do not need to remove this bracket to take the rack off, but you will need to unbolt the rack from the bracket. As a side note, you are easily able to remove the freedom panels without removing the rack.
Legend has it that Front Runner was conceived between a 1988 Land Cruiser 70 and a 1992 Mercedes G-Wagen in Botswana, around a campfire, near a majestic Baobab, amongst elephant tracks, by a handful of friends from South Africa with backgrounds in engineering, design, manufacturing and... More +
