South Africa offers the adventurous traveler an opportunity to experience Africa at your own pace while focussing on your own interests. South Africa's beautiful, diverse regions is an ideal destination to explore in your 4x4 or sedan. With its excellent road infrastructure and well developed tourism sector, South Africa is an 'easy' destination.

But don't be fooled into thinking that it doesn't offer any challenges! It has it's fair share of serious 4x4 trails and challenging routes. You can spend a day on a trail or plan a multi week overland adventure exploring South Africa's remoter regions. Think Kgalagadi, West Coast, Transkei, Malutis and Baviaans...

Vehicle Requirements for the Cederberg Area
• Four-wheel drive with low range transfer case
• Recovery points front and back
• High ground clearance
• Off-road tyres for rocky terrain (thick side walls)
• Traction control or rear diff lock will be an advantage

Best time to explore the Cederberg

The Cederberg and West Coast are situated in the south western parts of South Africa and best visited during the summer months (October to March). The temperature can reach 28-30ºC or higher offering beautiful sunny days. The Atlantic Ocean brings relief in the form of a cool breeze along the coast. Rainfall is low during the summer.
• A 'must-see' for those who enjoy spectacular scenery, be sure to diaries your visit to fall over thewest coast floral extravaganza when the desert-like terrain is transformed into a carpet of flowers. It takes place from mid-August to mid-September.
• Winter can get cold, with rain and sometimes snow in the higher altitudes.
