Product Questions
Any experience installing the Pro Kayak Carrier on the Slimline II 1/2 for a 2-door Jeep JK and hauling a 14-foot kayak weighing 53 lbs? I realize the distance between brackets would be small...
Question by: Daniel Miller
Our brackets are more than strong enough to handle the weight of the kayak but we recommend checking with your Kayak manufacturer to ask about the strength of your particular kayak given the available mounting point distance with the 2 door JK.
Answer by: Front Runner
i want to know if you guys still make the one that holds a paddle and you can install it on the side of the rack. thank you
Question by: jay-r
Yes, we do. The Ratcheting Spade/Shovel Mount (RRAC024) is what you are looking for.
Answer by: Front Runner
Will this work for a 10ft kayak with the rear expedition rail kit installed on a slimline roof rack?
Question by: Jim
There a few variables at play. First, you the actual kayak brackets are adjustable- the closer you make them, the higher the kayak sits. Second, the size of your rack. If you have a large vehicle like a Sprinter van, then a kayak will fit within the expedition rails. Third, the curvature of your kayak- some curve up more than others at the ends. The expedition rail, inserted into the rear or side profiles add 3.5 inches of height. We recommend doing some measuring of where your kayak will be sitting on the rack and seeing which part of the kayak, if any, will be overhanging the rear rail, keeping the 3.5 inches of added height in mind. Thanks!
Answer by: Front Runner
Will this kit work with the slimline rack with the expedition rail kit installed ?
Question by: Jim
The expedition rails are taller than the kayak mount, however, it all depends if you have full perimeter rails or only partial and what size your kayak is. Thank you!
Answer by: Front Runner
Would this kit work on a Thule Aerobar, or similar type of bar from Thule?
Question by: Pablo
Many of our accessories are specifically designed to work within the Front Runner family of products. This allows us to make sure everything works the way it should and maintains function and strength. The Thule bars, in this case, will not be able to take our Kayak brackets. We have different Load Bar options, however, that are a great affordable way to join the Front Runner family.

Will this kayak mount work with a TracRac SR Sliding Rack? Here are the dimension schematics
Question by: Riley
It may be possible, but you would need to change the mounting hardware to hardware that fits your rack system. Our mounts come with M8 hardware but were not sure what hardware is required for your system. Or, we can help you buy one of our racks too!
Answer by: Front Runner
Will this carrier system be able to support a 17ft canoe?
Question by: john brainard
Yes! As long as the canoe is less than 300 pounds and the load is evenly distributed on the rack you will be fine.
Answer by: Front Runner
Is there a weight capacity limit to the kayak mounts? For example I have a fishing kayak that weighs 90lbs.
Question by: Wayne
The kayak mounts are mostly side support while the majority of the weight is supported by the rack. You'll be fine with a 90lbs kayak. Thank you!
Answer by: Front Runner
Is it okay to keep the kayak mount on when not in use? Or will the elements effect the padding over time? Sun, rain, salt ect.
Question by: Tucker Taylor
Yes! You can keep the Kayak mount on when not in use. If you know you won't be using it for a length of time then we do suggest taking it off because the elements can impact the longevity of the padding over the time.
Answer by: Front Runner
Can this kayak carrier fit the load bar kit/ foot rails for the Toyota Tacoma?
Question by: TJ Trantham
Yes. The PRO Canoe & Kayak Carrier (RRAC051) is mountable to the load bar kit for the Toyota Tacoma.
Answer by: Front Runner
Can two kayaks/canoes fit on the roof rack if two kayak carriers are purchased?
Question by: Tyler
You can double-stack the kayaks or canoes depending on their size. The mount adjusts in pitch and can slide along our slats so they are not in a fixed width until you lock them down. Of course you would need padding to double-stack your kayaks or canoes to avoid damage.
Answer by: Front Runner
Are these kayak mounts able to fold flat when not carrying a kayak? Or do they remain upright until fully removed?
Question by: Mark
Hey Mark, Our kayak mounts have a slotted adjustment that can change the angle of the mount, but unfortunately it does not go flat. You would need to remove the mount if clearance is an issue. We hope this helps. Bryan Rush
